President Obama and Congress are considering legislation that will allow Bankruptcy Court Judges to modify homeowner mortgages.  Details are sketchy and evolving as you read this.  We expect you will be able to lower your principal balance, lower your interest rate and extend the duration of your loan. 

For example a 3 year old $250,000 loan at 14% interest for 30 years on a home worth only $150,000 might be reduced to the value of the home, $150,000, with a new interest rate of 7% payable for 37 years.  The old payment of $2962 may be reduced to $947, saving $2015 monthly.

In another example, a 3 year old $100,000 loan at 14% interest for 30 years on a home worth only 80,000 might be reduced to the value of home, $80,000, with a new interest rate of 7% payable for 37 years.  The old payment of $1185 might be reduced to $631, saving $554 monthly.

These examples are based on our best evaluation of the pending legislation.  We are in regular contact with Senator Durbin's office as we monitor the path of this legislation through Congress so that we can provide you with the quickest and best service if and as soon as this proposed law takes effect.
